BalanceX currently offers the following ancillary services:
- FCR-D (Frequency Containment Reserve for Disturbances) – Your battery system provides rapid frequency regulation during major deviations to help mitigate critical situations and ensure grid stability. FCR-D consumes very little energy and is therefore considered energy-light.
- FFR (Fast Frequency Reserve) – This is an ultra-fast reserve where your battery system responds to sudden and deep frequency drops to prevent further deviations — and is compensated for its fast response. FFR also consumes very little energy and is considered energy-light.
Later this year, BalanceX will also be able to offer:
- FCR-N (Frequency Containment Reserve for Normal operation) – Your battery system contributes to maintaining normal, continuous grid stability by correcting small frequency deviations. FCR-N is energy-intensive, as it requires sustained regulation over time.
- aFRR (Automatic Frequency Restoration Reserve) – Your battery system helps restore the balance between electricity consumption and production by either adjusting its own consumption or electricity output. Unlike FCR-D, FCR-N, and FFR, which respond within seconds, aFRR is typically activated within a few minutes. aFRR is energy-intensive, as it requires longer activation times to restore frequency balance. You are paid both for being available and for actual activation.
